How we plan a slow week in Lisbon
One neighbourhood, one favourite café and no more than one 'big thing' a day: our recipe for falling in love with Lisbon.

When people ask us how to 'do' Lisbon, our honest answer is: don't. Live in it for a week instead. Pick one neighbourhood, find your café, and let the city come to you.
Choose one neighbourhood and stay put
We always suggest a base where you can walk to dinner. Graça for views and village feel, Príncipe Real for gardens and boutiques, Campo de Ourique if you want everyday local life and a brilliant market.
One big thing a day
Morning is for the 'big thing', whether that's Belém, a museum or a day trip to Sintra. Afternoons are for wandering, long lunches and a sunset at a miradouro. That's it. You'll see more by trying to see less.
“You'll see more of Lisbon by trying to see less of it.”
What goes into a plan like this
- Two or three neighbourhood options with the pros and cons of each
- A day-by-day outline with morning, afternoon and evening choices
- The small, family-run places we'd send our friends to
- Practical bits: transport cards, SIMs, tipping and what to pack
If that sounds like your kind of trip, tell us about yourselves. We'll take it from there.
