Visiting Maui with respect

Maui is open and welcoming visitors, but how you travel matters. A few things we keep in mind when planning trips there.

By ALKIKI · · 1 min read

Maui is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and its communities are still recovering from the 2023 wildfires. Travelling there thoughtfully is the best way to help.

Spend locally

Farm stands, family restaurants, local guides and small shops keep money on the island. In every Maui plan we include the small businesses we'd want to support ourselves.

Follow the guidance

Respect closed areas, reservation systems and local requests about where not to go. They exist for good reasons, from protecting reefs to giving communities privacy.

Leave it better

  • Use reef-safe, mineral sunscreen
  • Stay on marked trails and respect private land
  • Never take sand, rocks or coral
  • Learn a little about the place's history before you go
